Dragon Copilot note updates give reseller partners a timely reason to reconnect with healthcare customers about documentation quality and adoption. Microsoft has announced changes to Dragon Copilot and DAX Copilot note generation in the United States, including more contextual HPI output for eligible Epic environments and refinements for psychology and psychiatry.

For partners, the immediate opportunity is to explain the scope clearly, prepare customer-facing teams for questions, and help customers evaluate the changes within their existing workflows.

What partners should know about the update

Context-aware HPI has an Epic prerequisite

Dragon Copilot can use a visit’s diagnoses to guide the history of present illness, or HPI, when an Epic customer has Diagnosis retrieval enabled. Microsoft describes better emphasis on relevant clinical information, medications, and dates, with more concise treatment of unrelated conditions.

Keep that qualification in sales conversations and customer communications. This is not a blanket announcement that every deployment or EHR has gained the same contextual capability.

Psychology output puts more emphasis on therapy

The psychology improvements are intended to better represent talk therapy encounters. Therapy content receives more attention across the note, and the physical examination section gains more detailed mental status examination documentation.

The assessment and plan is also being broadened to capture the issues addressed, therapeutic discussion and interventions, planned treatment, other relevant observations, risk considerations, and time information. For partners supporting behavioral health organizations, these are useful topics for a focused adoption conversation.

Psychiatry notes have a revised organization

The psychiatry HPI is being reorganized. Functional status, triggers and stressors, and family psychiatric history are being removed as standalone sections, while a family history section is being added.

Customer-facing staff should understand that changed headings are part of the announced behavior. Help users review the full note before treating an unfamiliar layout as a technical issue.

Set accurate expectations about rollout and availability

The announcement states that the update is automatic and requires no customer action. Its regional scope is the United States. The listed offerings include Dragon Copilot and DAX Copilot on web, desktop, mobile, and embedded platforms, plus their Epic versions.

The context-aware HPI feature still depends on the specific Epic configuration. Do not extend the announcement to Canadian availability, all EHR integrations, or every specialty. It also does not establish a new licensing requirement or a required migration from one product to another.

Your partner playbook

Turn the announcement into a useful customer conversation

A concise partner outreach plan can connect the product news to the customer’s actual documentation needs:

  1. Identify the relevant customers. Prioritize US psychology and psychiatry practices and Dragon Copilot customers using the eligible Epic workflow.
  2. Brief sales and support together. Give both teams the same summary of what changes, the prerequisites, and the automatic rollout.
  3. Ask about the review experience. Find out whether users see more useful drafts, unfamiliar section placement, or repeated corrections.
  4. Separate product delivery from optional assistance. Customers do not need a services engagement to receive this automatic update. Training or workflow support may be helpful when a specific adoption need is identified.
  5. Keep the feedback specific. Document which specialty, configuration, and note behavior needs attention so the appropriate support team can investigate.

These are partner enablement recommendations, not additional rollout requirements from Microsoft. Clinicians should continue reviewing and correcting generated notes before finalizing them.
